Chunk by breath
Singers breathe at phrase boundaries even if line breaks on paper disagree. Play the line; mark where you would inhale.
Chunk by grammar
Prefer splits after:
- Prepositional phrases (in the morning)
- Small clauses (when I see you)
Avoid splitting fixed expressions (give up, run out of).
Chunk by rhyme
Couplets often pair two short chunks. Learn A, then B, then A+B.
Drill each chunk
- Listen 3×
- Speak slowly 3× (line-by-line)
- Shadow with vocals 3×
- Solo without audio
String chunks
After three chunks (A, B, C), combine A+B, then B+C, then A+B+C.
